PRIMAL MOVEMENT PATTERNS
As an animal, the ability to move is essential for our survival and therefore natural selection has shaped the movement patterns of each organism to facilitate the best chance to survive and reproduce.
However, modern homo sapiens have created an environment that is completely artificial from what our bodies were designed to do. We have created an environment that is only dependent on two legs and therefore we no longer have to climb, pull or jump to move around obstacles or to get from point A to point B.
When we are born, we are soft and supple and can bend and move effortlessly. As we age and perform the same daily routines, we start losing mobility, flexibility, and strength because we no longer need these abilities for our survival. We become stiff and sore.
The human animal is capable of so many primal movements (pushing, pulling, squatting, lunging, hinging, rotating, gaiting and throwing) which are the foundation for any movement that occurs in the body. Furthermore, the body can move through six degrees of freedom (surge, heave, sway, pitch, roll, yaw) in a multiplanar way, all of which are essential for our health and longevity.
Based on the above, the fundamentals of this system is based on the following:
- Movements Must Be Performed Under Load
- Must Include All 8 Primal Movements
- Must Move The Person Through All 6 Degrees of Freedom
